To him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:21
What can contain or express the infinite glory of the eternal God save God himself? Is there any vessel equipped to carry forth such worthy treasure without equal even if the sum of heaven and earth’s treasures were gathered together as one? Is there any means which under the weight of inexhaustible heavenly glory would not utterly fail? Is there any canvas upon which the glory of God could adequately be displayed?
Here is wonder upon wonder—the eternal glory of Christ Jesus is bound together with his church.
Is there none save God himself in the man Jesus Christ— the incarnate eternal Word, the image of the invisible God, the one who makes known to us the God and Father of all? Surely it would seem there is not, yet here is wonder upon wonder—the eternal glory of Christ Jesus is bound together with his church. The eternal glory of the church is bound up in Christ Jesus. It is a shared glory—not by merit, for Christ alone deserves eternal glory, but by grace as the Bridegroom invites his bride to share freely in all that is his. What now, by the church’s belonging to Christ, is true of Christ, is true of the church. The glory of God’s grace and power forever and ever adorns the church with a radiant splendor given her by God, a dress sewn for her in true righteousness and holiness in the image and likeness of the God of glory.
