The Paradox of Discipleship

What will it take for us to join with Christ in his mission of making disciples? In the the first six verses of Luke 9, Luke offers us an answer—albeit a hard and uncomfortable one. It’s an answer that disturbs our comfort and undercuts our materialism revealing the great paradox of discipleship—that to have Christ is to lose everything, and that to lose everything is to gain everything in Christ. To say it a bit differently, only when Christ is all we have do we realize Christ is all we need.
